Governor Scott Walker

Scott Walker was sworn in as governor of Wisconsin on January 3, 2011. He was elected to the state assembly in 1993, where he was a member of several committees including the Assembly Committee on Health and the Assembly Committee on Census and Redistricting, and chaired the Committee on Corrections and the Courts.
In 2002, he was elected county executive of Milwaukee. For the next eight years, Walker focused on reducing the county's debt and, despite failing national and state economies, Milwaukee County recorded a budget surplus in 2009. He was reelected to the position in 2008.
On his first day in office, Walker called the state legislature into a special session on job creation. Since that day, he proposed and enacted reform legislation calling for a transformation of the Department of Commerce into a public-private entity named the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. This new organization is aimed at promoting Wisconsin as a beacon for economic opportunity while keeping in place proper government oversight.
