Susana Martinez was sworn in a governor of New Mexico on January 1, 2011, and is the states first female governor. Martinez was the district attorney for the third judicial district in Doa Ana County, New Mexico, for 13 years. Martinez was first elected district attorney in 1996 and was reelected three times. In 2008, Heart Magazine named her Woman of the Year for her dedication to childrens advocacy and her efforts to keep children safe.
